The following shows the right side view of the radio that has been removed from the car. The original electrical design for the 1951 Mercury was a six volt DC system with a positive ground configuration. This model radio was used in a 1951 Mercury. Use the tuning knob to select a station to be preset and then move the button to the left and pull the button forward and then push the button all the way back into the radio. Notice the button on the far right has been pulled forward from its normal position, this is how you preset a station. Once the station is preset then pressing the button will tune the radio to the preset station. The remaining five (5) buttons may be preset to an AM station of the user's choice. The left button is used as an "OFF" button, pressing this button will turn the radio off. We replaced the speaker with a new 7" x 9" oval speaker. The paper core of the original speaker was in very bad condition. The prececeding is a picture taken during the restoration process. The radio dial did not move when the tuning knob was rotated and the buttons were all sticking. It predates stereo but does have a built-in control and connector for a rear speaker. The 1951 Mercury was available with a Model 1CM747-1 radio that was manufactured by Sylvania Hygrade.
